West End Stars Bring The Fir Tree to Artsdepot This Winter
West End performers will bring to life How It Ended’s creative adaption of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale,The Fir Tree, which is coming to Barnet’s artsdepot this winter. Coinciding with the 180th anniversary of the book’s original publication, the show tells the story of a little fir tree who longs for adventure and is desperate to grow up.
The Fir Tree’s three cast members areDenzel Baidoo (Bukoyo Saka in Dear England, National Theatre’s West End transfer; This Might Not Be It, Bush Theatre; Suspicion, Apple TV), alongside Samuel Heron (The Mousetrap, St. Martin’s Theatre, West End; The Flick, National Theatre; Everything I Know About Love, BBC) and Loren O’Dair (Tweedy’s Massive Circus, Underbelly; Ghost Stories by Candlelight, HighTide; Once The Musical, West End; The Tempest, Pleasance Theatre).
Fusing live music and song, live foley sound effects and puppetry, this poignant and playful production is a festive delight for the whole family, with moral lessons around the enduring power of friendship, the legacy of great stories, and the importance of living in the present moment. The story centres around a young fir tree, who is not content with the sunlight and wind it receives, nor with its forest friends, but rather wishes to be bigger and older. The story’s core themes surrounding mental health, wellbeing, and environmental responsibility have universal relatability and promote urgent lessons that will speak to audiences of all ages.
The Fir Tree is being brought to life by How It Ended, the creators ofWild (Unicorn Theatre) andThe Little Gardener (UK Tour), as part of artsdepot 20th anniversary celebrations. All performances are Sensory Adapted and have been created with neurodiverse audiences in mind.
