SURREALE: FLIC Circus School Opens Call for Artists Under 35 in Turin, Italy

The Surreale 2026 Call is now open. The call is addressed to artists under 35 and aims to select new contemporary circus projects to be developed within the Surreale artistic residency programme, promoted by the Reale Società Ginnastica di Torino and FLIC Circus School, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Region of Piedmont, as part of the project Artisti nei territori.

Surreale is a project dedicated to research, creation and experimentation in the field of contemporary circus, with the aim of supporting innovative and multidisciplinary languages capable of engaging with different scenic and narrative forms. It is conceived as an international research centre welcoming artists from across Europe, where artistic freedom represents the starting point of creative processes.

The call is open to artists under 35 from across Europe who wish to develop a short-format project with a duration of 20 minutes.

Submitted projects will undergo a first selection phase carried out by an internal commission of FLIC. In the second phase, shortlisted projects will be evaluated together with sector experts, representatives of the organisations that form the Talea Circo network – Dinamica APS, Circo all’Incirca, MagdaClan Circo, Cordata F.O.R. and Quattrox4 Circo ETS – leading to the selection of four winning projects.

The selected projects will benefit from 15 days of artistic residency (also non-consecutive) at Spazio FLIC in Turin, as well as financial support for the creation process and tutoring activities. The works in progress of the selected short formats will also be presented within the Spazio FLIC Performance Season 2026/2027.

Applications must be submitted no later than 23 March 2026 at 11:59 pm (GMT+1), according to the procedures outlined in the call. The results of the selection process will be announced by 13 April 2026.
