Ms. Scroogeworth: Black Female–Led A Christmas Carol

Making global history, Ms. Scroogeworth: A Christmas Musical first premiered in December 2023, marking the world’s first Black female–led and produced reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Now returning to Memphis for its 2025 mainstage season, the production brings a bold new vision of the classic redemption story through faith, culture, and the power of Black storytelling.

A Reimagined Holiday Musical with Soul

Set in present-day Memphis, the story follows Ebony Scroogeworth, a sharp, successful businesswoman who has buried her joy beneath ambition and isolation. When visited by the Timeweavers of her Past, Present, and Future, she must confront the cost of her choices and rediscover the true meaning of the holiday season.

Told through original music, live vocals, gospel harmonies, and cinematic choreography, Ms. Scroogeworth transforms a familiar tale into a vibrant celebration of community, compassion, and second chances, offering a fresh perspective that resonates across generations and cultures.

“This isn’t just an adaptation; it’s a reclamation,” says Chambliss-Williams. “It’s our story told through our rhythm, our faith, and our truth. Memphis deserves that kind of legacy on stage.”

A Holiday Experience Like No Other

Audiences can expect a full-scale theatrical experience featuring original songs and scores, dynamic ensemble performances, and powerful themes of redemption and renewal. Alongside the production, the Scroogeworth Holiday Market will highlight local small businesses and artisans throughout the show weekend, creating a true community celebration.
