Laughter League Hosts FUN-Raiser to Support Therapeutic Clowning

Laughter League (www.laughterleague.org), the leaders in therapeutic hospital clowning, announces it will hold a special “FUN-Raiser” to support its clowning program at both Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone and Senior East 56th Assisted Living Facility as well as additional facilities to be announced. The event will take place on Sunday, December 7 at 6:30 pm at Brooklyn Art Haus (24 Marcy Avenue, Brooklyn NY). Tickets are available at LaughterLeague.org.

The “FUN-raiser” will feature a fun-filled performance from Laughter League artists including their founders, veteran clowns Dick Monday and Tiffany Riley, plus special guests from Omnium Circus and New York Goofs. There will also be a silent auction and other surprises that will make this a memorable evening for a good cause – helping the Laughter League continue its mission of humorous healing here in New York City.

Laughter League’s clown team has brought countless moments of joy, magic and comfort to patients, families and staff at numerous facilities across the country. The Laughter League team is comprised of veteran variety artists with backgrounds in circus arts, theater, improv, magic and music. They contribute to the overall care of patients and families through spontaneous connections that relieve stress, bring joy and can help make the day a little bit brighter.

The performers are not only trained in their varied entertainment backgrounds but are also trained in hospital protocol including hygiene, confidentiality, sensitivity and child development.

Making the rounds, the Laughter League team visits inpatient units, intensive care units, clinics, the Emergency Department and even waiting areas. Laughter and play are integral parts of the care of hospital patients and these messengers of mirth collaborate directly with the Child Life Department and medical staff at both Hassenfeld and Senior East 56 as part of the overall circle of care.  That could include everything from providing a distraction during procedures, encouraging kids to complete physical therapy tasks, to eat, to take medicine or simply giving them a few moments of fun and silliness during their hospitalization.

Through this special partnership, countless patients there have experienced the uplifting and healing power of humor courtesy of the Laughter League.
