International Black & Indigenous Circus Week Returns to Philadelphia for Its Third Year

A global celebration of Black and Indigenous artistry, culture, and innovation in circus arts takes center stage this September in Philapelphia.

From September 8–13, 2026, Philadelphia will once again become a gathering place for circus artists, educators, cultural leaders, and audiences from around the world as International Black & Indigenous Circus Week returns for its third annual edition.

Presented as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the week-long event is dedicated to celebrating the creativity, resilience, and cultural contributions of Black, Indigenous, and Global Native circus artists while creating opportunities for artistic exchange, professional networking, and community building.

What Is International Black & Indigenous Circus Week?

International Black & Indigenous Circus Week is the first event of its kind dedicated exclusively to centering Black and Indigenous voices within the circus arts. More than a festival, it serves as a platform for representation, education, and collaboration, highlighting both the historical roots and contemporary evolution of circus through diverse cultural perspectives.

By bringing together performers, educators, producers, students, and audiences from across the globe, the initiative creates space for artists to share their work, exchange ideas, and build lasting professional relationships while inspiring the next generation of circus practitioners.

As Veronica Blair, Founder of Uncle Junior’s Project, remarked: “I’m always happy to hear that people are creating spaces without needing permission.”
