Fira Tàrrega 2018–Street Art & Circus Collide
From September 6th until the 9th in 2018, the streets of Tàrrega in Spain will be taken over by street art of all kinds as the annual international market for performing arts festival known as Fira Tàrrega kicks in. Since 1981, Fira Tàrrega has been showcasing the performing arts with indoor and outdoor shows–but their heart is in the promotion of street arts, where they often support emerging artists.
Visiting the Fira Tàrrega website leads you to a clever ‘menu’ for all appetites, with recomedations for shows to see if you like your art a bit political, or if you prefer to experience some experimental art, etc. A few of this year’s highlights include; Ludo Circus, described as a playful circus piece, Mexicatas, a theatrical story about feeling exiled as a Mexican, and Of Man and Beast, a street art dance piece that explores the nuances of masculinity.
Running concurrent with the festival is a stallholder’s market and for lodging attendees have the option of hotel or nearby campsites. The festival also includes a Pre/para week of activities and discussions for artists and professionals around the concept of street art that is also open to the public.
Fira Tàrrega describes their mission as “As a meeting place and an international point of reference for debate, the main objective of Fira Tàrrega is to boost the performing arts market, opening the door to the internationalisation of the companies. Other more specific objectives are the accompaniment and promotion of creations by emergent artists, encouraging training, focused on artistic creation and culture management and on generating strategic alliances to develop transnational street art circuits or productions.”
