Elena Giakoumaki – Director, Theatre Consultancy EMEA: “The theatrical experience is all about intimacy and proximity” (StageLync Podcast Ep.62)

Elena has 15 years’ experience as a theatre consultant, eight years’ experience with UK architectural practices specialising in theatre design and two years’ experience with a leading set designer in Athens.

Elena has brought her considerable architectural and theatre design knowledge to Charcoalblue and has consulted on projects including Sohoplace Theatre, London; Roundhouse, London; Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London; Leuven PAC, Belgium; Boulevard Theatre, Soho; Theatr Clwyd, Mold; Malvern College; The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago; Little Island @Pier 55, New York; Dorfman Theatre at the National Theatre London. Elena is a member of the Architects Registration Board, a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, an associate member of the Association of British Theatre Technicians and an associate member of the Institute of Theatre Consultants.

This podcast episode is a special feature  highlighting the  World Stage Design (WSD) Conference. The World Stage Design (WSD) Conference is held every four years—just like the Olympics—and 2025 is their year.  World Stage Design is the only exhibition globally to showcase performance designs from individual designers. After successful shows in Toronto, Seoul, Cardiff, Taipei, and Calgary, the sixth edition of the event – WSD25 Sharjah, UAE, is its first time in an Arab country. The event is co-produced by the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) and the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT).The exhibition features three categories: Performance Design, Space and Object Design and Set, Sound, Costume, Lighting, and Video Design.Registration to WSD25 is now available via their website.
