Circus Takes Over Guadalajara in July As Periplo International Circus Festival Returns
From July 9th to 21st the Periplo International Circus Movement Festival in Guadalajara, Mexico celebrates and advocates for the international circus arts with professional seminar and circus shows in its 6th edition.
The 13 days of circus celebration will include four professional workshops for circus artists and students of intermediate or advanced experience, creation laboratories, four shows, open stages and other activities, with participation from national and international artists.
This year’s edition will feature a renowned guest in each featured intensive workshop disciplines. In the juggling category for example, Wes Peden (US) will teach a masterclass.
Considered one of the best jugglers in the world, Peden has performed in more than 25 countries and he is the winner of awards at the International Juggler’s Association and at the Cirque de Demain Festival. Gabriela Muñoz (Chula the clown) from Mexico is the highlight of the clown workshop. Muñoz graduated from the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA). She is one of the most outstanding Mexican artists in the clown world, her show Perhaps, Perhaps … Maybe has been performing around the world. The cyr wheel intensive features Aimé Morales from Venezuela. Morales graduated from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque in Brussels, and won the Gold Medal and Audience Award at the Festival Cirque de Demain in 2014. Lastly, the hula hoop workshop presents Florence Huet from France. Huet has trained at The Regional Center of Circus Art in France and Municipal Academy of Circus and Variety Arts in Kiev. She has performed with the Jérome Thomas Company.
The festival show program, playing at LARVA and Conjunto de Artes Escénicas, presents the traditional International Circus Gala, the one-person shows Volcano Vs. Palm Tree by Wes Peden, “Perhaps…perhaps…quizás” by Gabriela Muñoz, and the IJA Regional Competition will also take place during the festival.
