TRIGGERED: How Anger Transforms Us Through Theatre and Acrobatic

An all-Black, Indigenous, and People of Color circus ensemble tackles timely themes with virtuosity and radical imagination. San Francisco, CA – September 26, 2025. How does anger transform us? Who has the right to rage? What could our fury alchemize if we were to harness it, together? TRIGGERED dives fearlessly into the roots of our most powerful emotions to bring you a timely and inspirational devised theatre piece that features partner and group acrobatics, creative movement and unapologetic glimpses into the impact of indignation.
Created by an all-BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) cast, the piece will premiere with three showings only at ODC Theater in the Mission District on October 25th at 6pm and 8pm, which are open to the public, and October 26th at 12pm, which is a free showing for BIPOC community members, followed by a Q&A panel with the artists. Tickets for the Saturday shows are sliding scale $15-$50, with $100 VIP tickets also available now at odc.dance/triggered. This show is recommended for audiences 13+. For further questions about the show’s content, audience members can contact [email protected].
TRIGGERED was created as the culmination of the BIPOC Acro Collective Care Ecosystem’s (BACCES) Take Power, Make Power artist residency pilot program, during which a cohort of 10 BIPOC acrobats underwent seven months of mentorship from acclaimed, revolutionary Black and Brown artists in disciplines such as immersive theatre, narrative circus, cultural devising, modern dance and more.
“A program like this is long overdue,” says producer and co-creator of the residency, Azrael Máel Eóin. “American circus has a history rooted in the exploitation of artists of color, and racism is still prevalent in the arts to this day. Take Power, Make Power puts resources back into the hands of incredible artists who are best positioned to use their skills for social change, and empowers them to create without the fear of censorship.”
“Being a BIPOC artist can feel very isolating. Having a place where we can create together, find joy in camaraderie and process our experiences through the creative process has been the dream,” says resident artist Serena Tang.
TRIGGERED provides an equally cathartic and eye-opening experience that is sure to inspire audience members regardless of race, culture or background. Don’t be mad you missed it.
