The Latest from CircusTalk – Spring Edition

In my winter message, I concluded by saying that as a global community we share creativity, passion, and a steadfastness that will bring the circus and performing arts industry back to life, better than ever. That was a reflection on the “Is Covid done yet?” revival. Since then, Russia has invaded Ukraine and more than a quarter of the country’s population has been forced to flee— among them, of course, circus students and professionals we consider friends, colleagues, and esteemed industry peers.

Once again, the circus community mobilized in an incredible show of solidarity and support in all its forms. I salute the dedicated individuals and groups working tirelessly to help in so many ways.

.

While you wouldn’t know it from the snowy weather in my part of the world, spring has arrived, and with it, the next wave of international circus festivals. This month I will present the CircusTalk Spotlight Award to an emerging artist at VIVA Fest in Las Vegas, whose work demonstrates courageous expression and whose performance is lauded for its social relevance, artistic and technical acumen, and audience engagement. In addition to judging the Emerging Artist category and World Circus Arts Championships, I am excited to meet talent when I share career path advice at the  VIVA Fest Talks

Then, in May I am honoured to join an outstanding lineup of fellow jurors at the 2022 Young Stage Festival in Basel, Switzerland. The CircusTalk Spotlight Awardwill again make an appearance, and I look forward to participating in the festival’s  Professional Session, a circus networking forum designed to develop new contacts and generate new ideas.

.

Speaking of new, two new CircusTalk Original series have dropped, both available exclusively to CircusTalk PRO members.

After her successful  CIRCUS BODIES article series,  Madeline Hoak, an NYC-based performer, writer, producer, professor, choreographer, and CircusTalk Content Producer, celebrates behind-the-scenes creatives —costume, set, sound, lighting, and stage management— with  The Circus Designer.

Certified Athletic Therapist and former aerialist Yasmine Mucher offers strategies to enhance your physical well-being. From general maintenance to specific care for various acute and chronic injuries, The Physical Health video series teaches you how to understand and manage your body, and provides practical steps towards optimal wellness.

.

Join the conversation! Shana Carroll from The 7 Fingers will be my guest on ProTalks April 30. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to learn from and connect with Shana, a director, choreographer and creative leader extraordinaire.

.

And finally, a friendly nudge to dive into your CircusTalk profile and take advantage of the new fields for casting-specific information, designed to connect Talent and Talent Seekers. A complete profile means increased international visibility for Talent and enhanced search capability for Talent Seekers.  Click here for a How-to.

Wishing you a healthy and abundant spring.
