The Technical Director (TD) is a key leadership role within this Festival’s summer production team. The TD oversees all scenic elements from design to stage including drafting (as required), budget planning and adherence, scheduling, supervising crew, and problem solving. Additional day-to-day responsibilities include facilitating initial festival set-up and strike, providing leadership on the shop floor and on-site during installs, changeovers and load outs, coordinating expenses with Production Management, communicating with designers (especially once they are on-site) and coordinating build space usage with the Charge Artist and Props Master. The TD, ATD and Shop Foreman work closely together to always ensure a professional and inclusive work environment. The TD is responsible for maintaining a manageable work schedule for the entire Carpentry team to facilitate multiple ongoing builds and projects throughout the summer season. Safety and precision are our foremost priorities. Ideally, the TD is available in the winter and spring months for production meetings, drafting, and budget consultation (additionally compensated for achieved deliverables).

This theatre’s mainstage season features the mounting of 4 productions and other special events and the scenic elements required for those events. The TD is not responsible for any other technical department (lighting, sound, video, costumes, etc.). The Technical Director establishes and maintains the production culture at its scenic shop. Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of the theater, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
Determine the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for special events and performances presented at the Playhouse in advance of production dates.
Advise scenic, lighting, and sound designers on the technical specifications, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for the individual shows, and supervise the implementations of approved technical designs.
Supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management.
