Position: Technical Director at Bay Street Theater - Summer 2026

Compensation: $1,275 weekly

Reports to: Director of Production

Location: Technical Director position is on-site, in Sag Harbor, NY and Riverhead, NY. Housing is provided.

Schedule: The work schedule is determined by the Director of Production. This position requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BSTs performance calendar. This is a seasonal position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The BST mainstage season features the mounting of 4 productions and other special events and the scenic elements required for those events. The TD is not responsible for any other technical department (lighting, sound, video, costumes, etc.). The Technical Director establishes and maintains the BST production culture at its Riverhead scenic shop. The TD establishes and enforces policies and practices that ensure the highest levels of safety and responsible usage. The TD works with the coordinated scenic team to ensure smooth productions that come in on- time and on-budget. This post requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BSTs performance calendar. The TD should be proficient with AutoCAD or Vectorworks,

The Technical Directors general responsibilities will include:

PRE and POST SEASON
- Lead the set up scenic shop for beginning of season and compile lists regarding any general shop and supplies needs.
- Lead the restoration and cleanup of scenic shop at the end of the season, including updating the stock item inventory and re-stocking general supplies and materials

MAINSTAGE SEASON
- Lead the construction and installation for all Mainstage productions and draft build drawings.
- Coordinate the purchase of materials for the construction of all scenic elements
- Collect and manage of Scenic Department-related expenditures including collection and coding of all receipts and invoices
- Lead the construction of scenery to ensure design completion and labor efficiency to balance budget necessities with design integrity
- Actively participate in scenic load-in and load-outs, supervise changeovers
- Attend all necessary production meetings.
- Establish and administer equipment maintenance timetables and checklists that ensure shop equipment is properly maintained in good working order, that equipment is regularly tested, and that replacement equipment and stock is ordered as needed

ADDITIONAL SPECIAL EVENTS
- Coordinate and lead the build of scenic needs for all other BST events including, but not limited to concerts, comedian performances, galas, and other special events/projects as needed, including Literature Live production.
