Recirquel Calls for Talent for Its Immersive Circus Production

Budapest-based, renowned contemporary circus company, Recirquel, has announced a new production for 2025 and is seeking performers through an extensive casting call on the StageLync Job Board.

The upcoming production, like most of the company’s work, is the brainchild of Recirquel’s founder and artistic director, Bence Vági. Known for crafting a unique blend of circus, dance, and theater, Vági’s creations are celebrated for their experimentation with internal and external performance spaces.

The company holds a pioneering position as Hungary’s first contemporary circus company, emerging from a landscape where traditional circus dominated both artistic and operational structures. Recirquel broke away from these norms, carving out a new artistic language calledcirque danse. This approach not only merges circus with dance but also creates a transformative aesthetic that invites audiences into a deeply imaginative and introspective exploration of human existence and experience.

“Cirque danse is a fusion of circus and dance, merging wonderment (meraviglia) and astonishment (stupore), where neither art form overpowers the other. Instead, they work as companions. ‘Cirque’ finds freedom, while ‘danse’ gains a new expressive power, birthing a hybrid performer who embodies both,” explained Kristóf Várnagy, Recirquel’s deputy artistic director.

Recirquel’s acclaimed productions—Paradisum,Solus Amor,IMA, andMy Land, to name a few—have garnered numerous accolades and toured major performing arts venues worldwide, including Edinburgh, Paris, Avignon, Bogotá, Montréal, and New York.

In recent years, Recirquel has ventured into the realms of immersive theater and site-specific productions. Their latest creation,Walk My World, builds on this innovative path.

“Our upcoming immersive production,Walk My World, will blend acrobatics, dance, and drama, with performers taking on intricate roles to bring mythical characters to life using our unique cirque danse language,” said Várnagy.

While the company is keeping much of the story and artistic vision under wraps, we’ve learned thatWalk My World creates a cinematic reality where audiences are immersed in the lives of mythical characters and legends. Set in a custom-designed, six-thousand-square-meter venue in central Budapest, the production allows visitors to explore the mystical world at their own pace, room by room. Along the way, they will encounter dramatic battles, the underworld, and enchanting spirits—each reflecting the complexities of the human experience. The creators intend this immersive journey to be more than entertainment, it is designed to evoke deep emotional engagement and introspection by the audience.

The company is currently seeking performers forWalk My World and accepting applications through February.

“In this dynamic and captivating immersive theatrical production, we are looking for performers fully committed to embodying complex roles and characters,” explained Várnagy. “Artists will present their primary acts alongside choreography sequences and live compositional tasks, constantly interacting with their environment. We are particularly interested in performers who are not only skilled in their specific disciplines but also eager to embrace dramatic and multifaceted roles.”

Key Details for Applicants:

  • Rehearsals: Full-time, starting in April 2025 at Recirquel’s rehearsal space in Budapest.
  • Performance Period: Starting October 2025, with a minimum one-year commitment.

This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with one of the most innovative contemporary circus companies and contribute to a production that promises to push the boundaries of immersive performance art. Interested artists are encouraged to apply before the deadline.
