Performing Arts Conference in Ghana Fosters Collaboration

The National Theatre in Ghana recently hosted its Annual Conference of the Performing Arts, which brought together key players and stakeholders in the country’s creative arts sector. Themed “We Have Value: Building Bridges to Success,” the event served as a platform for creative professionals to explore solutions for advancing Ghana’s performing arts industry.

Deputy Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Mark Okraku Mantey delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of a vibrant performing arts scene for the country’s cultural landscape. He called for increased investment in creative infrastructure and improved funding mechanisms, as well as a stronger policy framework to protect intellectual property rights. His speech highlighted that Ghana continues to prioritize the arts in its development agenda.

The conference also facilitated discussions on Ghana’s cultural relations with South Africa. In an interview at the Ghana’s Channel One, Lindiwe Lekasapa, the General Manager for Strategic Relations and Special Projects, spoke about the growing influence of the cultural sector across Africa. A video interview below with Lekasapa further elaborated on the opportunities for cultural exchange between African nations and the ways in which creative industries can contribute to economic and social growth.

This event was another step in strengthening the performing arts in Ghana, encouraging collaboration and policy support to ensure the sector’s continued growth.
