Luxembourg’s Z Art Dance Company Brings ‘NEGARE’ to Edinburgh Fringe 2024
How do we move against the tides of ourselves and others? When a body changes and bodily tissue shifts, are we the same person at the end? …
Part of acclaimed three-part series LE TRIPTYQUE, country Luxembourg-based Z Art Dance Company will present their bold and absurdist solo dance theatre show NEGARE, by acclaimed multidisciplinary choreographer and dancer Giovanni Zazzera, at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024.
Story – Supporting Paragraph: A poignant foray into the intricacies of the self, NEGARE brings to the fore a curiously atypical and ever-shifting character to question the universal themes of identity and observation. Blending physical theatre with expressive movement and dance, Zazzera’s work probes how we see those around us – and, in exchange, how we are seen by others.
Rebuilding the deconstructed and bringing the invisible and unseen into full light, NEGARE sees the nameless performer shift through an intimate, ever-developing meditation that sees his very physicality and form viscerally change, grow, shrink, and twist on stage. Clothes disappear, a body changes; and a new face is built through the manipulation of mask and tissue.
Communicating through widely interpretable messages as opposed to direct narrative storytelling, NEGARE speaks uniquely to each audience member and their existing lived experience, thoughts, and perspectives – asking us exactly what it means to negate or go against something with regards to your innermost self.
NEGARE turns everything we may know on its head to build up living and breathing identities and movement in the moment; a journey of transformation and a metamorphosis of a body.
Previous Praise for NEGARE:
- LA GLANEUSE – ‘From the outset, his eyes create a connection with the audience and he never lets go. Here we are in his world, not knowing what it is or where it will take us.’
- FUNDAMENTAL MONODRAMA FESTIVAL REVIEW – ‘NEGARE transposes a journey staging the appearances and swirling states of our beliefs.‘
NEGARE will show at C ARTS (C venues, C Aquila, venue 21) from 12 – 25 August (@14:40 – 30 mins).
