While our industry is still dormant, and it is uncertain if live performances will happen over the summer of 2021, summer camps are hopeful. Many circus camps and workshops are planning for a double scenario for the summer, leaving the ‘in-person event’ option open.
Circus camps are hiring now, and seasonal opportunities have opened for those with circus skills and experience.
Circus Smirkus, Circus Summer Camp in Greensboro, Vermont (US)
Circus Smirkus has been bringing the transformative power of the circus arts to people of all ages since 1987. Their summer camp is for people of all ages and skill levels (including adults) who want to learn the circus arts in a summer camp setting. Circus Smirkus is hiring now for their 2021 Summer program.
Besides general camp counselors, they are looking for a head coach. The camp seeks an experienced circus coach to lead and teach circus arts, to oversee all circus instruction and related activities at Smirkus Camp and to supervise circus coaches and rigging staff, as well as to ensure instructional quality and safety at all times. The head coach is a member of the ‘Camp Leadership Team’ along with the camp director, head counselor, and activities coordinator. This position is a chance for someone with a vision for circus training to watch it develop in front of their eyes.
Camp Lohikan, Pennsylvania (US)
Camp Lohikan is a coed, residential summer camp located in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Pocono Mountains. The daily activity program features over 65 activities in aquatics, creative and performing arts, adventure, sports, and more. The camp is searching for supervisors, head instructors, and instructors for their circus and flying trapeze programs.
Camp Lohikan’s circus activities include: flying trapeze – single/double/triple trapeze – mini-tramp – rollo bollo – circus bike – low wire walking – rolling globe – acrobatics – stilts – hand balancing – aerial hoop – fire eating – juggling – unicycle – magic acts – Spanish web – tight wire – diabolo – devil sticks – lyra – teeter board – clowning, and more!
Skilled Summer, UK
A summer camp staff recruiter based in the UK, has also been searching for camp coaches qualified and interested for this summer 2021 to teach circus skills at various children’s summer camps.
