StageLync Podcast Ep. 82: Dr Dorita Hannah on Designing Performance Beyond the Theatre
In this episode of the StageLync Podcast, I’m joined by Dr Dorita Hannah — an independent academic and trans-disciplinary designer based in Aotearoa / New Zealand, whose work sits at the crossroads of theatre architecture, public space, and urban scenography.
Dorita’s “critical spatial practice” spans exhibitions, installations, performances, feasts, symposia, and workshops — and her projects have earned design awards and been published and exhibited internationally. She’s also written extensively on performance design and event-space, with her latest co-authored book Perform Design Act coming out in the new year. Right now, her research explores decolonial theories and “performative spacing,” asking how we can design cultural environments that better reflect diverse communities and move beyond familiar Western models of public architecture.
