Cirkus Cirkör Founder Tilde Björfors Steps Down

As the visionary and circus director behind Cirkör, she has catalysed artistic development, new collaborations, and societal engagement and promoted research and innovation within the circus arts. Tilde Björfors has placed Cirkus Cirkör on the world map.

“Tilde’s significance for Cirkus Cirkör and the development of contemporary circus, both in Sweden and internationally, cannot be overstated. She has established an entirely new art form and founded one of Sweden’s most cutting-edge performing arts institutions. We are happy to say that we will continue touring Tilde’s great success “Knitting Peace” in the coming years and look forward to new collaborations with Tilde in the future,” says Eric Sjöström, Chairman of Cirkus Cirkör’s board.

“It’s not easy to leave behind what has been my life’s work for over a quarter of a century. Both as a circus director and artistic director, it has been important for me to place the circus, the art, and the pedagogy at the core of organisational development. And to let the vision that the impossible can be made possible guide us. So, it’s my message as I and my beating circus heart pass the baton. I am grateful for the rich experiences, challenges, and lessons my journey with Cirkör has brought. I look forward to carrying it forward in other contexts,”says Tilde Björfors.

“Since the beginning, Cirkör has been a platform where diverse artistic expressions have converged and collaborated, and that’s how we aim to continue carrying forth Tilde’s legacy. Now, a collective of experienced circus directors and artists, who have long been part of us, will drive the artistic vision and take the contemporary circus arts into the future,”says Kajsa Giertz, CEO of Cirkus Cirkör.
