Lost in Translation — Contemporary circus company
Lost in Translation is a UK-based company focusing on contemporary circus that blends circus skills with theatrical context and humor. The company features a close group of performers who deliver warmly entertaining shows in both indoor and outdoor ensembles.
Today, Lost in Translation is intent on reviving circus culture after the pandemic. They have teamed up with The Lowry to perform their show The Hogswallops, a fresh take on family life, as well as a brand-new production titled Above. The Lowry is a registered charity committed to serving their local communities that presents an exciting array of shows including theatre, opera, dance, comedy, and circus.
The Hogswallops is a depiction of a very unique family. For this family, every day activities become extreme acrobatic displays. Anything from a bedtime routine to setting the table for dinner can warrant the appearance of bungee chords or flying aerial feats. Through The Hogswallops’ circus antics, the audience sees a cheeky snapshot of a family.
Above is an enchanted tale inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel The Baron in the Trees. The show follows the protagonist Cosimo, a man who has sworn to live a life of adventure in the treetops. High above the ground, Cosimo encounters pirates, love, and revolution.
Lost in Translation’s mission reads as follows: “We have a deep desire to connect people, communities and cultures. We actively work to engage and develop new audiences through the performance – and by offering high quality outreach and educational activities in collaboration with our presenting partners.”

Company director and performer Massimiliano Rossetti offers these words on the return to the stage: “We’re so excited to be back on stage with a bang for our 10th anniversary year! At Lost in Translation, we have a deep desire to connect people, communities and cultures through our character driven theatrical shows and our trademark warm humour. This past year has seen us separated from both our loved ones and what we love doing, so we can’t wait to bring a smile to new audiences.”
