Brighton Fringe 2026 Launches Month-Long Arts Celebration
Brighton Fringe has kicked off with a bang as its opening weekend delivered a range of standout moments and variety of shows across the city. The May bank holiday weekend marked the start of the spectacular month-long, city-wide celebration of the weird, wild and wonderful. Now in its 21st year, Brighton Fringe aims to stimulate, educate and entertain through a diverse programme, showcasing creativity across Brighton, Hove and beyond.
As an open-access festival, Brighton Fringe remains the ultimate platform for both new and established artists to take risks and push creative boundaries. With more than 30% of events produced by companies based in Brighton & Hove, this festival is a true testament to the local artistic spirit.
Highlights of the opening weekend included a special performance from musical cabaret show C’est Magnifique,winners of the highly coveted 2025 International Touring award, in the renowned i360 tower, set against a backdrop of breathtaking views of the city. Also taking place in the pod of i360, Mile Die Clubbrought an immersive murder mystery dining experience to the skies. The weekend also saw the launch of the pop-up stages at the iconic Fringe venues Caravanserai and SpiegelGardens, which all Fringe artists are able to use for impromptu performances during the month of May.
Running from 1st – 31st May, the city of Brighton is now buzzing with creative energy with a staggering 850+ events across over 150 venues. This year’s lineup is bursting with talent, featuring everything from gripping drama and intricate dance to jaw-dropping circus and world-
class stand-up comedy. Upcoming theatre highlights include: the return of Jonny Woo’s Surburbia, blending storytelling, drag and burlesque; MAN!FEST: A Boy Band Fantasy, a drag musical comedy about a new favourite boyband trying to survive their second world tour; and following a sell-out, Scotsman Fringe First award-winning Edinburgh run, Beth Paterson’s NIUSIA, weaving her Holocaust survivor grandmother’s memories to explore identity and legacy. The comedy programme offers the multi award-winning Police Cops: The Original, returning with adrenaline-fuelled physical comedy and 80s hits. Elsewhere Mystic Smeg takes audiences on a slightly spiritual, overly sexual journey in Guess Boo: The Mystery of My Nan’s Ashesand Drag King Kathy Maniura presents The Cycling Man, following a newly single, middle-aged man teetering on the brink.
As the third-largest Fringe festival in the world, Brighton has many more incredible shows in their line-up, including comedy, cabaret, family shows and spoken literature. At its heart, Brighton Fringe remains committed to helping the arts flourish and enabling both new and established performers to take risks and entertain audiences.

Such a great reminder as to why Brighton Fringe is so important for this extraordinary city – a true celebration of its diversity and creativity… With four exciting weeks and hundreds events still to come, there’s something for everyone, from comedy to cabaret and everything in between. There’s loads of free events, affordable tickets and pay-what-you-can shows, there really is no reason not to come and join the celebration.
