Book SARAB for 2025: A Powerful Circus-Theater Experience

The Palestinian Circus School is bringing SARAB, an evocative circus-theater production, back on tour in 2025. This unique performance, whose title translates to “mirage,” uses acrobatics, music, and expressive movement to delve into the profound experiences of refugees, sharing stories of displacement, hope, and resilience. Through SARAB, audiences are invited to witness a deeply moving portrayal that transcends traditional performance, sparking dialogue on the realities faced by displaced communities, a topic that is unfortunately more relevant today than ever.

SARAB was conceived in 2017 when a group of Palestinian artists sought to create a work that highlighted the experiences of refugees. In collaboration with Welsh director Paul Evans, they transformed this vision into a fully developed show that premiered to audiences across Europe. SARAB’s raw portrayal of refugee struggles quickly resonated with viewers, offering an intimate perspective on a complex issue. After a hiatus due to COVID-19, SARAB returned in 2024 with a renewed energy and a fresh cast, bringing an even more urgent message to the stage.

SARAB weaves together circus and theater to offer a narrative journey that goes beyond spectacle. Each scene is crafted to capture the emotional and physical challenges faced by refugees, creating a powerful atmosphere where the audience can feel the weight of struggle and the flicker of hope. Acrobats navigate a set designed to represent the obstacles encountered by displaced individuals, using their physical prowess to convey both the resilience and vulnerability of those forced to leave their homes. SARAB’s blend of illusion and circus magic invites viewers to connect with these experiences on a visceral level, fostering empathy and understanding.

Scene from SARAB

For festivals, tours, and arts venues, SARAB brings a globally relevant narrative that resonates on a humanitarian level. This production gives voice to struggles often left unheard, connecting audiences to the realities of displaced communities. Its message is rooted in the lived experiences of the performers and aims to raise awareness about the ongoing refugee crisis. SARAB offers more than artistic performance; it serves as a platform to promote empathy and cultural understanding, making it a compelling addition to any program seeking to highlight socially conscious themes.

The Palestinian Circus School, founded in 2007, is committed to providing young people in Palestine with a creative outlet through the circus arts. SARAB embodies this mission by giving young performers a platform to explore their heritage and reflect on their community’s resilience. Beyond artistic training, the school creates a safe space where youth can express their daily struggles, dreams, and identities, contributing to a rich cultural dialogue within and beyond Palestine. Supporting SARAB means supporting an organization that empowers young Palestinian voices, offering them a means to share their stories through creative expression.
