About
The iconic Windmill Theatre will house an experience that pays homage to the beauty, the decadence and the history of the Windmill whilst at the same time bringing it firmly into modern times.
A melting pot of hedonistic soho, 1920s glamour and immersive digital theatre. Where the audience members role isn’t to simply sit back and enjoy the show.. but to co-author their own experience.
Role
We are recruiting a creative individual with experience in theatre and directing to fit our unique role of Assistant Director.
You’ll be working underneath an Artistic director, putting their visions to life on stage, so must have a diverse understanding of theatre.
You’ll be required to attend creative development meetings once a month, as well as preparing and running week long rehearsals for the whole cast.
- Take the script / showbook from the artistic director and put the work on its feet
- Liaise with the artistic directors, creative team and other technical departments, e.g. costume, lighting and sound in order to physicalise the work
- Organise & run rehearsals
- Make creative decisions when required
- Take charge of the tech team (costume stylist, light/sound, choreographer and stage manager)
- Make sure all performers have relevant up to date documents (insurance/risk assessments)
- Sort out rotas and schedules for the performers (arrange cover if need be)
- Produce weekly report to the Artistic Director and management.
- Attend meetings requested by management to contribute to ideas, strategies and concepts.
- Looking after the wellbeing of the cast
Skills
Qualification in theatre directing or the equivalent in experience
Experience in cabaret/alternative venues & immersive theatre
Excellent communication & managerial skills
Location
The heart of Soho, London’s Westend.
All staff must be able to arrange their own travel to and from the venue & rehearsal space (location TBC) Therefore, staff already living in London is ideal.
Salary
Circa £35,000 pa
Dependant on experience and level.
