UK Film Icons Unite for World’s Largest Movie Character Gathering

This summer, step onto the set of cinematic history and become part of a world record! To celebrate 100 years of movie magic at the UK’s most filmed heritage site, the Old Royal Naval College and Elstree Studios will stage a spectacular Guinness World Records™ attempt for the largest gathering of people dressed as film and TV characters.
On Saturday 27th September 2025, the riverside UNESCO World Heritage Site will honour a century on screen with a day to remember. Fans ofBridgerton,Batman,Pirates of the Caribbean,Star Wars,Indiana Jones and more are invited to dress up, show up, and make movie magic happen. From families to superfans, everyone is welcome to join this once-in-a-century celebration of film, fandom, and history for free.
Over the past 100 years, the Old Royal Naval College has featured in more than 200 film and TV productions, from Oscar-winners to streaming blockbusters, with directors including Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott and Kenneth Branagh.
Elstree Studios, one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious film and television studios, is also celebrating its centenary in 2025. Over the past 100 years the studios in Borehamwood, Herts, has become famous as the home of such iconic productions asStar Wars, Indiana Jones,The ShiningandThe Crown.
As well as the world record attempt in partnership with the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich, Elstree is staging a series of major events to marks its 100th anniversary. Highlights include a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh; the UK’s first AI-driven film and television immersive experience; a gala celebrating talent and filmmakers with a connection to Elstree such as Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas; an interactive heritage trail; and a community open day as well as screenings and Q&A sessions.
By combining their back catalogue lists they are now inviting the public to step into the shoes of their favourite characters and become part of cinema graphic record-breaking history.
Participants will dress as iconic screen characters that have graced the famous Elstree Studios and Old Royal Naval College’s stunning baroque backdrop – think Queen Charlotte, Jack Sparrow, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Batman and beyond. Costumes must feature recognisable elements to count towards the official Guinness World Records™.
This Guinness World Records™ attempt will feature iconic props and photo stations including Cruella’s car, the Batmobile, and a regal Bridgerton inspired throne, as well as unmissable set-jetting moments with live costume inspiration and film scene recreations. There will also be film-themed food, music, and fun for all ages as visitors take part in a joint cinematic celebration and opportunity to make history and be part of a GWR record!
