Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence Drops Highly Anticipated New Album

Storming onto the courts at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for 2025, the powerhouse team behind the Australian hit production Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defencehas released their full studio album. Hot on the heels of the Lionesses’ triumphant Euros win, this bold original soundtrack honours a new era of fierce sporty girl power, delivered with unfiltered theatrical flair.
Named after Shakespeare’s most infamous anti-heroine and the scrappiest position in netball, CRASH Theatre Co shoots and scores with this hilarious and infectious soundtrack. Pop-synth tempos pulse like a victory parade and soaring vocal lines build in sweaty unison, resulting in a rallying cry audiences will want to sing along to. Blending hot, feminist rage with just the right amount of musical style, the album channels the spirit of a team that doesn’t ask for permission to win.
Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defencedebuts in the UK fresh from their award-winning run at the Adelaide Fringe earlier this year. Telling a cautionary tale of ambition, friendship and fierce determination, through the world of competitive netball, the energetic music breathes new life into classic literary text. Mac Beth, a dedicated player, dreams of becoming the Year 12 Netball Captain but faces unexpected challenges when Coach Duncan appoints Chloe Macduff instead. From the first centre pass until the final whistle, what follows is a gripping rollercoaster of treachery, manipulation and redemption.
With a script by Courtney McManus, lyrics by McManus, Ana Ferreira Manhoso and Bec Price, and an electric pop-synth score by Project BEXX (Bec Price), the Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defence album is presented by an all-female powerhouse team of Australian artists, combining the sharp wit of lyric-driven storytelling with high energy dance anthems.
The winner of Sydney Fringe’s Best Cabaret and Musical Theatre and Perth Fringe’s Martin Sims Award (for best WA work that is ready to tour the world), Adelaide Fringe Tour Ready Award and, most recently, the prestigious House of Oz Purse Prize, Lady Macbeth Played Wing Defencehas been met with resounding acclaim.
The show is part of the House of Oz Edinburgh 2025 season which also includes You’re An Instrument from The Sonicrats, The Listies: Make Some Noisefrom The Listies, FLICKfrom Mad Nun Productions, Ten Thousand Hours from Gravity & Other Myths, TRIPTYCH Redux by Lewis Major Projects, Orpheus and Eurydiceby Circa (at the Edinburgh International Festival) and Skinny by Michelle Pearson.
