Erica Kennedy Debuts ‘Big Hair Big Dreams’

Performer, producer, and rising cabaret artist Erica Kennedy will make her solo debut at The Green Room 42 with Big Hair Big Dreams: Stories from a Former Beauty Queen, and original musical comedy playing Tuesday, April 22 at 9:30 PM.

Directed and conceived by Kennedy, the show draws from her years competing in the Miss America Opportunity, blending dynamic vocals, comedic storytelling, and sharp cultural commentary.  The son list includes selections from Funny Girl, Man of LaMancha, and Wonderful Town, with musical direction by Andre Catrini.

A tongue-in-cheek yet heartfelt skewering of pageant culture, Big Hair Big Dreams pulls back the rhinestone curtain on Erica’s own experience in the glitzy, high-pressure world of beauty competitions. Featuring dynamic performances of Putting It TogetherSex is in the Heel, and Gotta Get a Gimmick, the show blends powerhouse vocals, character work, and sharp comedy with reflections on identity, ambition, and resilience.

“I wanted to create a show that celebrates how far we come when we stop performing for other people’s approval and start embracing the chaos of our own journey,” said Kennedy. “It’s about lipstick, laughter, and letting go.”

Musical direction and piano accompaniment are provided by the acclaimed Andre Catrini.

Erica Kennedy holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Oakland University and has worked in arts fundraising and development.  She has directed numerous campaigns in support of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which will receive a portion of the show’s livestream proceeds.
