Cirque du Soleil Supports Circus Harmony and Other Social Circuses

Just in time for Giving Tuesday this week, Circus Harmony (located in St. Louis, Missouri) has announced that they were delighted to receive the 2017 Cirque du Monde Grant from Cirque du Soleil to augment their work in social circus. The Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group’s cause is youth at risk, and after careful consideration of their social circus network via Cirque du Monde, they awarded $10,000 grants.

Cirque du Monde helps support over 23 social circus organizations around the world and as such impacts 4,500 plus youth. In addition to financial support, they have offered special training in 30 countries and have reached over 1500 conference goers with their social circus advocacy.

Circus Harmony’s Artistic/Executive director, Jessica Hentoff, said “The funds from Cirque du Soleil’s Cirque du Monde will be used for equipment for off and on site classes, to provide stipends to visiting instructors for our Life Skills classes for our intermediate and advanced students and to fund administrative support for our evaluation work. We always do a lot with a little!”

Two other worthy social circus’ in the USA that received this honor are the Point which is based in the Bronx, New York and Prescott Circus which is situated in Oakland, California. In Canada, the recipients of the grants were Repit Jeunesse, SODAM, SoCirc, Coalition Sherbrookoise Pour Le Travail de Rue, The Wonderbolt Circus and Foundation les Petits Rois. Circus Talk would like to congratulate all of the recipients of the grant and wish you another great year of social circus work!
