Check Out CircusTalk’s Circus Briefs!
Every once in awhile my non-circus family friends will ask me, “And how do you find something to write about circus every day?” And I laugh at their naiveté. To me it seems odd that they can’t imagine a world where circus news is bursting out of their inboxes every morning–a world where discovering more circus seminars, schools, performances and festivals are a daily occurrence.
It just seems sad that they miss the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge multi-disciplinary shows in NYC or Berlin, or to read interviews from the directors and artists who are making strides in innovation in this industry. But then, that is the life of a non-circus person, living every dang day as if circus weren’t a thing.
But you and I know differently. We know for example, that English is a great language, but not the only language that people discuss circus in. We know that there are many places online and in our day-to-day lives to catch information about circus but that no matter how big our ears and how deep our network, we can’t catch everything. As editor, I strive to curate the news and articles on CircusTalk News to create balanced and quality reporting, but so much more comes across my desk every day that it is difficult to watch those juicy yet less significant news tidbits drift away. This is why we created CircusTalk Briefs! It is a place where you can find out even more about what is happening around the world in circus and you can discover it in its native tongue as well.
But what is the difference between a CircusTalk News article and a CircusTalk Brief? The former is an article that either originates with us from reporting, or is shared by us through international news monitoring that I feel is relevant to the industry agents. The latter can be anything from a short announcement or review to an update, or to an inscrutable article in Hungarian that I have to use Google translate to verify is the real deal. Although a CircusTalk Brief is also circus-related, it is often quickly consumed, hence the name Briefs!
