Benefit screening of "Cirque du Cambodia" Nov. 20-21 only! - Performing Arts Events - StageLync
We are having this special benefit screening to raise money for the school featured in the film, Phare Ponleu Selpak, and the two stars who first learned circus there. The screening is available starting on Friday, November 20, which is UN World Children's Day, through Saturday, November 21 at 11:59 p.m. after which you'll have 24 hours to watch it. We are asking for (US) $12 as this limited screening is a fundraiser. If it is possible to donate more, please do so after buying the ticket.

Cirque du Cambodia is a documentary film that follows the journeys of two teenagers from rural Cambodia living out a classic fantasy – running away and joining the circus. But it isn’t just any circus they dream about; they are determined to become the first Cambodians to perform with Cirque du Soleil! You can see a trailer for the film here: https://youtu.be/SVxDMMNi3vo

The two young Cambodians, Sopha and Dina, had attended a social circus program at a special school for the arts named Phare Ponleu Selpak (meaning "brightness of the arts."), which is a magical place that helps foster a positive, creative environment amongst local youths, many of whom come from challenging backgrounds.

We wish to raise awareness about the world of social circuses to those who watch our film and to encourage them to support arts organizations/arts education for disadvantaged and at-risk kids all over the world. During this time of the COVID pandemic, it’s especially important for kids to be able to express their emotions through artistic expression and these programs give kids from all types of background the chance at a better life. Social circus builds community, confidence, self-esteem, creativity, empathy and makes them good social citizens through arts education.

Phare Ponleu Selpak and the two stars of the film have had a most challenging time in 2020 and we hope to help them through this benefit screening.
