Zinzi Oegema

I am a circusartist. I'm a performer and creator that loves the versatility of circus. I've worked in huge theatres and small venues, on the streets, in tents, with our own special mobile venue and on location in pubs. I've graduated circus school 10 years ago now and still enjoy exploring many different settings. 

Contemporary circus enriches physical exceptionality with everything it needs to tell what it wants. Strict expectations are missing and the non-existence of rules is its strength. I want to create performances that stimulate creative thinking in a visual way. I hope to inspire people with my work, to get them to open themselves up to more possibilities then they ever imagined thinking of. Not to judge on first impressions and in the end even surprise themselves.

Specialized in hand tot hand acrobatics I've been working together with my partner Evertjan Mercier since 2009. We perform our award winning act View, a street show and indoor show MEMO together. We have integrated several compagnies and collectives together, such as Cie XY, the 7 fingers and Hyrra. In 2019 we founded our own Common Ground together with 4 colleagues.

I've also created two circuspieces for other performers, together with TENT, called Barstool Bound and PIT. I wrote the booklet GRIP, a toolkit for the creation of contemporary circus.
