My name is Stephanie Pick I am one of the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA)emerging artists, winning NICA’s Rupert Hamer award (2017) and Academic Excellence (2016).
In 2019 I performed single point trapeze in a brand new work called Code Grey at Gasworks circus showdown. In October 2018 I performed in a collaborative circus and physical theatre piece called Boxed in Sideways at the Melba Spiegletent. 2017 saw me perform at the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 4:48 Psychosis and received positive reviews in my work in Lost:5 at Melbourne’s Poppy Seed Festival. 2017 also saw me devise my own clowning and dance trapeze creations in “A year in the making” at the David Williamson Theatre and “The Ordinary and the Extraordinary” at NICA.
I’m a Sydney born storyteller, skilled in connecting with the audience, I completed a three year Diploma in Acting at the Ensemble studios where I also studied singing before becoming a valued part of the Luna Park performance team. There I honed my skills of clown, improvisation, character work and connection with people individually and in a group basis.
I am currently employed in the role as Ruby Roo, the North Melbourne Kangaroos mascot in the Australian Football League. Ruby was a brand new character, so I was involved in the conception and delivery of her character, providing atmosphere and experience for fans on game day throughout the AFL season. In this role I convey and connect physically, without voice.
My favourite thing is getting up close and personal with the audience and taking them to a place where, unlike in day to day life, it is encouraged to feel your feelings, laughter, sadness and everything in between. I draw on various mediums to evoke emotion. My love for clown stems from a natural ability to relate to the audience in a vulnerable, earnest and unapologetic way. Which is driven from direct experience with societal issues such as mental health and addiction.
