Rebecca Stute alias Yoj, born in Detmold, Germany, in 1993, began her stage career at age nine in the role of Cosette in Les Miserables at the Detmold State Theater. She devoted her teenage years to classical music — taking piano, cello, and voice lessons, studying among others with Gerhild Romberger, professor at the Music Academy of Detmold.
In 2015 Rebecca moved to Zurich to commence her undergraduate acting studies at the Zurich University of Fine Arts. During her studies she coincidentally discovered a passion for buffoonery and has been working as a clown ever since. Her devotion is to use the depth of the poetic power of body and voice beyond language. In August 2018, Rebecca made her debut as ClownEsse Yoj in a self created and directed solo program named Shame with Yoj at the Central Stage of the Zurich Theater Spectacle, a program she has taken to other venues around Switzerland.
As a singer, Rebecca is devoted to song. In addition to chanson performances, she writes and composes her own songs, poems, and prose, which, in early 2018, culminated in her first solo program, titled I am free and I feel sick (premiered at Cultural Platform MIMOS in Zurich on May 4, 2018).
Furthermore she is dedicated to the work with children. She regularly teaches theatre improvisation and clown for kids between 5 and 8 and considers her young students as her "best teachers".
