- Paper Doll Militia’s innovative approach to choreography and poignant use of theatricality have gained the company the reputation of being pioneers in original aerial theatre. The Company was formed in Santa Fe, New Mexico (USA) in 2006, relocated to California in 2008, and set up their UK base in Edinburgh Scotland in 2013. Referred to as “The sophisticated circus of now” (Edinburgh Review), their work seamlessly weaves high-octane aerial arts and visual theatre into a contemporary circus spectacle. Paper Doll Militia has appeared in venues and festivals internationally including VAULT Festival (London), Manipulate Visual Theatre Festival (Edinburgh), Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Revolutions International Theatre Festival (Albuquerque), Fog Fest (San Francisco), Moisture Festival (Seattle), New Orleans Fringe Festival & Chicago Contemporary Circus Festival. Most recent touring Production; LoopsEnd. “Surprisingly delicate and mesmerizing, LoopsEnd takes risks the momentum of the show never diminished when the acrobats touched ground. Rather they seemed propelled with story, pushing and recharging themselves against one another.” - Black and Gold, New Orleans. The company is a current recipient of the Creation Fund through the National Performance Network and the Open Fund from Creative Scotland (for the development of their new show WARPED.) Egg, an aerial theatre production about female fertility performed on plastics is currently touring in the UK.
