Maria is a British Iranian Choreographer, Movement Director & Dance Artist. She is trained in
ballet, contemporary and classical Persian dance. She is a company dancer with Ballet
Afsaneh, Southwest Dance Hub and NDP Circus. Maria has performed and taught at theatres,
festivals and events across the UK and Europe for the past 14 years. She has worked as an
Actor and Movement Director in theatre and circus - performing lead roles at Edinburgh
Festival and touring across the UK and France with NDP Circus.
Maria is Artistic Director of Company Sheherazade, which uses contemporary dance and
classical Persian dance to tell stories of the diaspora and challenge the narrative on
displacement. She runs movement workshops with refugees and asylum seekers in
Gloucester. Based in Devon, she is Co-Director of Totnes Festival - working with theatre,
circus, and dance on site-specific projects. She speaks French, Spanish and Farsi and has an
MA in Middle Eastern Studies from SOAS. Credits and partners include: EdinburghFringe,
