Julia Ruth is a former physicist and climate change scientist turned circus performer. Her first opportunity in performance came in 2010 when she joined a recreational exhibitional gymnastics troupe, performing unique routines on various gymnastic apparatuses and traditional novelty acts. With the cast, she toured elementary, middle, and high schools all while completing her undergraduate degree in physics. After working for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), Julia left her research to travel and perform professionally. At the start of her circus career, she trained at the San Diego Circus Center for 4 years, where she specialized in Cyr wheel receiving training by Sam Tribble, Courtney Giannone, and Daniel Cyr. She moved to Montréal, Canada to create an act as a part of the TOHU Artistic Residency at L’École Nationale de Cirque. There she trained with Cyr wheel coach Éric Deschênes and artistic councilor Julie LeChance. Homebase for Julia is now split between Las Vegas and Montréal where she trains between contracts. During her time in Montréal, she trains crossed wheel with Jonathan Morin and in Las Vegas, she works with a variety of choreographers to polish her acts.
Julia has been performing professionally since 2015 on a variety of stages both nationally and internationally ranging from private events to continent-wide tours. Her most notable performances include Viva Le Cirque, Sydney Royal Easter Show, Party Like Gatsby North American Tour, New York Knicks’ halftime show, Cirque: Spirit of Christmas, San Diego International Fringe Festival, and a wide variety of fairs, festivals, and theme parks. In addition to her specialties, crossed wheel and solo Cyr wheel, Julia also performs duo Cyr wheel, hand-to-hand (base/mid), Spanish web, jumping stilts, taiko drumming, Russian swing (pusher), cube manipulation, and character roles. She enjoys her life as a freelance performer, always hopping from one city to the next, constantly working with different performers, and creating innovative routines. Julia loves making a positive impact in the world and inspiring others through performance.
