Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, Josey Wetzel grew up competitivity surfing at a young age, becoming ranked on the east coast as well as participating in a variety of martial arts. At fourteen years old, she started training circus at the local studio where she studied a mix of hammock, trapeze, Lyra, and tissu. After performing for the first time, she knew she wanted to become a professional circus artist. The rush of adrenaline, happiness, and inspiration that performing gave her led her to where she is now. At 17, Josey moved across the country to train at San Diego Circus Center under Jean Luc Martin in their preparatory program where she began specializing in rope and straps. Throughout the years, she has trained under Amelie Major, Didier Antoine, Gemiah Kurtzfield, Matthew Casey, Garrett Allen, Clara Laurent, and Mark Stewart.
