Gena DuBose is an aerial Arts performer and instructor based in Durham, North Carolina. Gena is also the artistic director of SOAR Aerial Dance, an Aerial Dance Collective based in the Triangle.
In 2010 Gena began practicing Aerial Arts in Asheville, NC after becoming inspired from seeing a live Trapeze duo in a unique warehouse event. From Trapeze and Silks, she moved into Lyra and fell in love with this circular apparatus. After training at Aerial Space, she moved to California where she trained at San Francisco Circus Center and Kinetic Arts in Oakland. She then moved to Orlando, FL where she trained with Jennifer Drabik at Orlando Area Arts.
In addition to her training in Florida, Gena spent her time at a flying trapeze school learning under Efe Ilkay, where he taught her how to work the board and also how to fly. This taught Gena a lot about body awareness and solidified her interest in making a career out of performing arts. While in Florida, Gena became inspired to work harder and received her Pilates training through STOTT which contributed further to her passion for learning about the body and how it moves.
Since moving to Durham in 2014, Gena has collaborated, taught, and performed with many studios and companies throughout the East Coast. Gena emphasizes choreography, sequencing and lyrical flow in all of her disciplines.
