PERFORMER
I am a UK Contemporary Dancer, Acrobat and Chinese Pole artists. I have been in intensive training since the age of 6. Starting with Artistic Gymnastics and Kickboxing, I competed in Gym at an elite level until my mid-teens while kickboxing for fun on my nights off.
I went on to train at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and during my time there I found Release technique incredibly satisfying. It became a useful tool to explore floorwork and was the beginning of my exploration into Acro Dance. During my second year of studies, I was in creation for ECHOES, an outdoor performance for CircusFest 2014 (London). Upon graduation, I joined Acrojou Circus Theatre for a national and international tour of 'Frantic'.
It was a surprise to me at the time, but in retrospect it's obvious how i’ve ended up between circus and dance.
I find the combination of dance and acrobatics lends itself to Chinese Pole. Within a year of self-taught training i was invited to be part of The Feathers of Daedalus Circus, for a full run of 'Coppelia' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, 2017, performing a chinese pole and acro dance solo.
I also make my own work, under the name Sneaky&Raptor which I co-direct with Nat Whittingham. This year (2091) we were commissioned by the Glastonbury Arts Commission and Bristol Circus City to create a 40-minute piece, combining Dance, Acrobatics and Chinese Pole.
I want the work that I create and perform to remind people that art is relevant, and is a force for social change. I’m excited by performances that display a raw energy on stage and succeed in clarifying our reality through abstract movement, circus and theatre.I am also a feminist, and I am keen to present positive, unusual and iconoclastic representations of women in performance. I am not interested in work where negative or stereotypical roles for women are reinforced.
TEACHER
Project based and Community - Alongside my performance work, I am also a passionate teacher. I began coaching gymnastics at the age of 15 and completed my Level 1 coaching qualification. I incorporate teaching into my freelance work and actively work with children, youth and adults to develop their confidence in movement and acrobatics. My teaching credits include: NoFit State, Acrojou Circus Theatre, Tom Dale Company, JoliVyann, The Big Act (Bristol) and outreach projects with Artis Community and Project Action Potential (Cardiff).
Moving Through Acrobatics -
Moving Through Acrobatics is a workshop developed and managed by myself and Nat Whittingham (professional acrobat and circus performer). It is focussed on broadening the skill of professional dancers and acrobats and those in training. The workshops are a mix of improvisation, floorwork, conditioning and acrobatic training. Ultimately, we aim to challenge the participants by presenting them with unknown territory. We provide a challenge for those who wish to work on their co-ordination upside down and for those who wish to become more proficient in dance and learning choreographic phrases.
Previous workshops have taken place in Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Brussels.
