"Je atans mo: anstre"
The motto is ancient, the ideas audacious. Since 1848 the ideal remains the same, to aim for one’s own star, to pursue one’s own dreams. From the first gymnasts to the acrobatic flights of those who nowadays, with passion and imagination, aim for their star, the heart is always the same. The "precious work done in favor of the youth" at the end of the 1800s is vivid and fuels the fire of the young artists who come from all over the world to our school and carry out this ideal, as an indissoluble thread that links past, present and future.
FLIC SCUOLA DI CIRCO
FLIC Scuola di Circo, a project of the Royal Gymnastics Society of Turin, created in 2002, is one of the most internationally renowned schools in the context of contemporary circus. It is supported by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, as a centre of professional development, and by the Piedmont Region, and is under the patronage of the Municipality of Turin. It is a founding member of the ACCI (Contemporary Circus Association of Italy), and a member of the FEDEC (European Federation of Professional Circus Schools).
FLIC Scuola di Circo was the first school of professional formation of contemporary circus in Italy. It gave itself the goal to develop this sector, at the time little known, starting from the training of the student as a complete professional figure. The whole project revolves around the multiple possibilities and methodologies of teaching, learning, satisfaction and growth that concern the student.
This objective is pursued by offering a training course according to the best European tradition, which includes physical preparation, acrobatics, dance and circus actor to extend the possibility of studies and artistic research with circus equipment and props.
The School organizes intensive internships with internationally renowned teachers and creation workshops, both in Italy and abroad. It also organizes other projects dedicated to the production, circulation, support and hospitality of its own and external shows. Great attention is given to the public through the organization of shows and festivals, amateur circus courses, workshops for middle and high schools, and social circus projects.
As a whole, the schools work is characterized by a strong heterogeneity of actions, with particular attention to the diffusion of contemporary languages, which makes it a perfect approach to the culture of contemporary circus and where all it’s initiatives nourish and strengthen each other creating dialogue, exchange and knowledge.
Since 2018, “Surreale - contemporary circus residences” is the new project of the FLIC with the aim of supporting the production and circulation of the contemporary circus, supported by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and by the Piedmont Region in the "Artists in territories" residence project for the three-year period 2018 - 2020.
To the present day, the FLIC trained more than 450 students coming from 27 different countries. Several ex-students have worked and are still working in famous companies, such as: Compagnie du Hanneton, Rasposo, No Fit State Circus, MPTA, Gandini Juggling, Cirque du Soleil, Finzi Pasca, XY, Circa Contemporary Circus and Gorillla Circus. Some students have even created their own independent companies: Collettivo 320Chili, Circoncentrique, MagdaClan Circo, Circo Puntino, Betticombo, Company Rasoterra, Courant d’Cirque, Laden Classe, Fabbrica C, Cordata For, OnArts, La Mia Compagnie, la Belle Apocalypse, Zenhir, Madame Rebinè, La Burrasca, DueDà Company, to quote only some of them.
THE SCHOOL PREMISES
FLIC Scuola di Circo is part of the Reale Società Ginnastica di Torino (Royal Society of Gymnastics of Turin), located in the heart of the city, in Via Magenta 11. In a building of great architectural and historical value, 2,500 square meters are dedicated and developed on 5 floors divided into 9 training rooms.
Since 2015 it has been enriched with a new space, called SPAZIO FLIC, located in Via Niccolò Paganini 0/200, inside the area that hosts the cultural project Bunker, in a suburban part of the city (Barriera di Milano), undergoing some urban redevelopment and rehabilitation. In a former industrial hangar, it is an open space of 700 square meters, which allows the FLIC to manage at best the many students who are selected each year for the courses. A space made for the exclusive use of circus arts: not only hosting part of the lessons of the professional course and the companies and artists in residence, it even has the possibility of becoming a theatre welcoming audiences for our productions and our season of shows, with all necessary stage and lighting equipment,
