At the core of what I do I am an artist and entertainer focused on the vaudeville clown and variety theatre. I find myself sitting on the boundary of cabaret, circus, sideshow and variety. I have an inexplicable passion for the art and the skills involved in Vaudeville, probably stemming from my early childhood musical theatre days.
As a teenager I decided that circus, and in particular salon juggling and slapstick, was what I wanted to pursue and despite being told on numerous occasions not to bother, as Vaudeville was dead, I persisted. I set out to search Australia and the world for teachers. I had to convince many of these masters that I was worthy of their skills and time, which in turn enabled the tradition to live on. Because of this I almost feel like a conservationist.
I have been working in the corporate sector and festival circuit around Australia and overseas since completing my studies at both Circo Arts in 2003 and NICA in 2005. No matter what or where I’m performing I take great pride in my work but also like to keep a larrikin attitude with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek while performing.
Having acquired a high level of skill in salon juggling, object manipulation, clown, happy cooks/plate spinning, slapstick and mime. It has not been at the expense of multi skilling in other areas of the circus arts. I learnt Chinese Pole, teeterboard, Russian swing, acrobatics and acro-balance whilst undertaking tertiary circus education from both Russian and Chinese trainers. I have continued using many of these skills in my current cabaret work. Other areas of professional development include theatre, Laban, View Points, Suzuki and improvisation. I'm half decent on the ukulele and can never remember the punchline to a joke.
I've had a good crack at Television, as much as it's not my favourite medium? It’s just another way of performing.
I have had extensive experience performing and working with musicians, I've collaborated in multiple ensemble shows, show devising/creation, re-mounting and innovating all within a group environment.
That is me
