Carina Kivela Gillet is a multifaceted circus artist and musician with a background in tumbling, dance, martial arts, and rock climbing. They recently graduated the New England Center for Circus Arts with a major in straps and minor in partner acrobatics, and also has a full lyra act curated at NECCA as well. They have worked in many different circus settings across the united states. From touring and residential shows to kids summer camp productions, Carina has had many rolls in the circus. With a passion for pushing the limits of their mind and comfort zone, Carina loves to be innovative and exploratory, and welcomes most any challenge in their accepted roll.
One of the things that makes Carina stand out as a performer and artist is their work of adding music into their circus disciplines. Carina's first full aerial music act was an aerial straps act that they developed with Cirque Us for their One Man's Trash Show Tour. This experience lead to an aerial harness/violin act, and then to a violin/tumbling act, which can all be recreated and performed. Working on these acts and pushing the envelope of the possibilities of act creation has been an incredible joy for carina.
Aside from loving to be innovative and creative, Carina loves collaborating with other artists when bringing art to life. One of their favorite collaborations has been working with their sister and diverse artists in Utah creating a circus, music, and film oriented art production aiming to spread awareness about the importance of collaboration in the arts, as well as the ability of the arts to advocate for important things like the environment. The work incorporates electronic music, and acoustic trumpet to be performed as a film piece or with film and live artists.
Looking down the road for new and old friends, if your company or production is looking for a collaborative, innovative, and multifaceted performer they're you person.
