About
-
ARTCENA, National centre for circus, dramatic and street arts, was born out of the alliance of the National Centre for Theatre and HorsLesMurs in 2016.
Created by the Ministry of Culture, ARTCENA, an open and lively rallying point that bolsters the foundation and growth of these three sectors. Supporting professionals of these fields, all while responding to the needs of educators, students and researchers, as well as the general public.
ARTCENA enacts its mission according to three axes:
Sharing knowledge : A digital reference and publishing platform
The sections of this portal are published online as they are developed. The ARTCENA team is working towards the creation of a reliable, curated, digitised selection of multimedia on the current events and history of circus, street and dramatic arts. As network headend, ARTCENA is in charge of coordinating these resources that have been gathered on this portal in order to give improved access to them. Among the partners joining ARTCENA in this are Bibliothèque nationale de France, Les Archives du spectacle, the CNAC – Centre national des arts du cirque and other structures. ARTCENA is committed not only to the collection of information, but to its distribution through multimedia channels and publication.
ARTCENA contributes to monitoring, alongside other organisations and the Observatory for creative arts and cultural diversity.
Professional support : Training and guidance
ARTCENA develops tools and services destined for professionals (directories, news, guides and fact sheets). They offer guidance sessions, namely in regard to legal and administrative questions, as well as training opportunities (info sessions, workshops, job training).
This support extends to the warmth of our office space, which offers the use of a conference room and co-working spaces.
Promotion of the circus, street and dramatic arts
ARTCENA participates in promoting the arts, namely through the national programs of Aide à la création de textes dramatiques (Dramatic writing support), the Grand Prix de Littérature dramatique (Grand Prize for dramatic literature) and the Grand Prix de Littérature dramatique Jeunesse (Grand Prize for dramatic young adult literature).
Encouraging international development, ARTCENA oversees the Circostrada and Contxto networks.
In 2019, ARTCENA coordinated the French delegation at the Prague Quadrennial.
ARTCENA feeds reflection and innovation through debates, but also through prospective laboratories or themed works in progress executed in concert with the profession.
To carry out its missions, ARTCENA relies on a Policy Board, composed of organisations and professional networks, and on an Executive Board.
