Krin Haglund is a Montreal-based circus performer, actress and director. Although she plays “Ms. Martel,” the artistic director of a fictional circus school on the tv show, Big Top Academy, in real-life Haglund is the founder and artistic director of the non-profit circus company, The Radiant. Haglund’s work, known for a profound connection between performer and audience, explores the intersection of character, comedy and acrobatics. She has produced three original creations with The Radiant and toured the world with many of today’s most exciting circus companies, including 7 Fingers, Cirque Éloize, and Cirque du Soleil.
Krin’s first original creation, her one-woman show, “The Rendez-Vous,” received critical praise at the 2014 Montréal Complètement Cirque. With The Radiant she also conceived and directed the celebration of the underdogs “CirquePROM.” a dark fairy-tale circus for family audiences, “Eat Sweet Feet, ” is her newest work in development. The project is part of Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal M45 Interdisciplinary Writers Unit. Krin toured for more than 12 years with many of today’s hottest circus companies including 7 Fingers, Cirque Éloize, Cirque du Soleil, and La Clique. As an original cast member of Cirque Éloize “Rain,” directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, Krin won acclaim as “Rain’s deft comedienne,” became the first woman to perform the Cyr wheel and originated the role of the bald angel. She coached the Cyr wheel act for the 7 Fingers off-Broadway hit “Traces“ and was director or an artistic advisor for three award-winning acts: including Silver Medal at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain, Krin graduated from Smith College and trained at San Francisco’s Circus Center and Clown Conservatory. Her creation work is supported by Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, TOHU - Cité des Arts du Cirque and Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal.
