About Cortland Repertory Theatre:
Cortland Repertory Theatre (CRT) is a professional nonprofit theatre company
producing high-quality live performances in Central New York. With two venues: a
historic summer home at the Little York Pavilion and a downtown facility offering year-
round programming. CRT presents professional plays and musicals, concerts, special
events, youth programs, and community partnerships. CRT is supported by a volunteer
Board of Directors and a dedicated Theatre Guild.
Position Summary
CRT seeks a skilled and motivated individual to oversee and execute all technical and
facilities operations for both venues. This hands-on position combines the
responsibilities of Production Manager, Technical Director, and Facilities Manager. The
successful candidate will ensure the safe and timely execution of all scenic, lighting,
sound, projection, and rigging elements for CRT+rsquo;s productions and events while also
managing the technical team, venues, and shop spaces.
Essential Functions
Production + Technical Direction
+bull; Oversee and actively participate in the construction, installation, and strike of all
scenic elements
+bull; Work solo or with minimal crew during winter season events
+bull; Collaborate with scenic and production designers to realize artistic visions within
budget and safety guidelines
+bull; Coordinate with lighting, sound, costumes, and props departments for smooth
load-ins and technical rehearsals
+bull; Supervise and train seasonal technical staff, interns, and over hire crew
+bull; Maintain and track inventory of tools, scenic stock, props, lights, sound,
costumes and all associated equipment and materials
+bull; Draft technical drawings and maintain build schedules
+bull; Provide tech support for special events, concerts, rentals, and educational
programming
Staffing + Budgeting
+bull; Hire and onboard summer technical staff, including stage management,
carpenters, electrics, sound, props, and costume teams
+bull; Hire and onboard winter over hire staff
+bull; Track and input weekly summer payroll timesheets for all staff
+bull; Assist in the creation and management of technical budgets
+bull; Research and recommend purchases of equipment, tools, and infrastructure
improvements
+bull; Ensure expenditures stay within approved budgets
Facilities Management
+bull; Oversee and maintain CRT's venues and facilities, including:
o CRT Downtown black box theatre
o Little York Pavilion performance space
o Costume shop/warehouse
o Off-site storage areas
+bull; Schedule maintenance and inspections on CRT owned vehicles
+bull; Coordinate repairs, renovations, and maintenance with contractors as needed
+bull; Manage setup/strike for CRT Downtown events (risers, seating, lights, sound),
including volunteer scheduling
+bull; Ensure safety compliance in all facilities
Technology + Equipment Oversight
+bull; Research updates and manage upkeep for technical equipment (lighting boards,
microphones, projectors, etc.)
+bull; (If possible, within abilities, training and experience), maintain office computers,
networking, internet access and AV systems across all venues, including
summer housing.
Qualifications
+bull; Degree in Technical Theatre or related field, or equivalent professional experience
+bull; Minimum 3 years in a similar role within a professional producing theatre
+bull; Proficiency in scenic carpentry, rigging, and stage mechanics
+bull; Working knowledge of lighting, sound, and projection systems
+bull; Ability to read and create technical drawings (Vectorworks or AutoCAD preferred)
+bull; Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills
+bull; Experience managing crews and working independently
+bull; Comfortable working at heights and using power tools
+bull; Able to lift 50 lbs. and work irregular hours as needed
+bull; Positive, team-oriented, and solution-focused attitude
Schedule + Work Conditions
+bull; Full-time, with evenings and weekends required during productions and events
+bull; Work is divided between office/shop duties and on-site production tasks
