Description:

The "Award for Music from Here" is a national program for identifying and supporting artists, initiated in 2017. It concerns musicians and singers from diasporas and national artists with whom they collaborate. It also aims to promote and collectively appropriate an artistic and cultural heritage.

How to define "Music from Here"? For more than a century, our country has regularly welcomed migrants led to leave their countries for economic, political, social reasons. Whether forced or chosen, this immigration fuels artistic creation and generates projects of great diversity. We consider this diversity a wealth to share. Artists steeped in a double culture revisit, alongside musicians they meet, the repertoires of the trad, rock, jazz, electro, or hip hop scenes, and reinvent today's music. These Musiques d'ICI are influenced by rhythms and sounds "from elsewhere" but created here on our soil! The artists we wish to promote come from numerous "diasporas," hence the subtitle of the program: Diaspora Music Award!

Why was this Award created? As organizers of the festival for 30 years, we observe an "invisibility" of diaspora artists who are often ignored by broadcasters and media. Their professional environment is often unstructured, which prevents the development of their projects. The ambition is to identify artists and support them in a process of structuring and professionalization. Talented artists in the field of traditional and world music should not be left behind! Respect and valorization of cultural diversity are at the heart of the project.

What support is offered? The Award is not a sum of money but tailored professional and artistic support that prioritizes listening and dialogue. The success of the process then relies on the cooperation capacity of the artists and their representatives. Examples of our interventions in recent years include:
- A progress review at the beginning of the support aimed at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the project and agreeing on actions to implement.
- Regular meetings and discussions with the Award team (backed by the association) and identified experts within our networks.
- An artistic residency period of several days.
- The contribution of a stage coach.
- Support for promotion and communication.
- Theoretical or practical training based on identified needs.
- Participation in a media broadcast, such as France Musique's "Ocora" program.
- Presence at important professional events, providing visibility (trade fairs, festivals, etc.). Examples: Fête de l'Huma, Babel Music Xp, international trade fairs depending on the relevance of repertoires (Visa for music in Rabat, Morocco; Journées musicales de Carthage in Tunisia; Atlantic Music Expo in Cape Verde).
- A photo shoot if the need is proven.
- Individualized follow-up.
- Support for dissemination within a network of partner venues and festivals: Le Rocher de Palmer, Les Suds à Arles, Babel Xp, La Fête de l'Huma, Le Pan Piper, Le Point Fort d'Aubervilliers, etc.
