Pre-Season Position: Casting Assistant
Dates:7/15/2025 - 8/31/2025: Schedule TBD
Pay: $24.00hr

The Casting Assistant plays a key support role in preparing for the seasonal Los Angeles Haunted Hayride event. Working closely with the General Manager, this position helps coordinate staffing efforts by assisting with audition logistics, communicating with prospective staff, and organizing casting schedules and documentation. The Casting Assistant also supports general event preparations by maintaining talent databases, helping with onboarding tasks, and ensuring all casting materials are up to date and accessible. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, proactive, and eager to contribute to a dynamic team environment focused on delivering a successful haunted attraction event.

Performance Manager – Los Angeles Haunted Hayride
Position Overview
The Performance Manager role is a seasonal full-time position at the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride, reporting directly to the General Manager. This role is responsible for hiring, training, directing, and overseeing Scare Actors across all attractions, including the Hayride, Mazes, Specialty Performers, and Icon Characters. The Performance Manager works closely with attraction managers in each zone to approve actors’ schedules, motivate team members, and provide ongoing coaching and support. Ensuring performers adhere to company policies and safety standards, the Performance Manager maintains quality control across the entire show—both haunted house and outdoor performers. Additionally, this role is responsible for promptly reporting any damage or repair needs for sets, props, and related assets to the appropriate departments, including Tech/Production, Costume, and Makeup.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
Oversee staffing, hiring, payroll, and scheduling for all performers, ensuring accurate tracking of hours and breaks to provide fair compensation.
Foster open communication with supervisors, vendors, and staff through various channels (radio, text, phone, email, chat apps).
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive performer information, protecting private details such as addresses and phone numbers.
Promote a positive team environment by avoiding conflicts of interest and ensuring all employees are treated equitably.
Support the General Manager in hiring and interviewing Attraction Managers and Assistant Attraction Managers.
Coordinate supply needs in collaboration with the General Manager.
Participate in weekly staff meetings to align on operational goals.
Training & Team Building
Develop and manage a comprehensive training calendar for all performers.
Lead pre-season training for performance departments and conduct mid-season training for new hires.
Build and retain a core group of talented performers for the season.
Schedule performance staff to meet the operational needs of the General Manager and attraction requirements.
Identify and address ineffective scare techniques, collaborating with the General Manager to implement improvements.
Coach scene actors on advanced scare techniques, including timing, intensity, and misdirection.
Organize and facilitate mid-season auditions to fill open roles as needed.
Operational Excellence
Partner with the General Manager to conduct regular quality control checks before, during, and after each show.
Perform pre-show walkthroughs 10 minutes before opening to ensure readiness.
Uphold the company’s standards of show quality across all attractions.
Take responsibility for the overall success of performances on the Hayride, in Town Square Mazes, and with specialty performers such as Madame Aurora.
Supervise Attraction Managers to ensure effective actor check-in and check-out procedures in each zone.
Assign and coordinate break schedules with Assistant Attraction Managers, ensuring adequate coverage and smooth operations.
Oversee the placement and rotation of actors in all attractions.
Guide performance staff through start-of-show and end-of-show processes.
Ensure attractions are ready to open on time by coordinating with Production Techs, Costumes, Makeup, and the General Manager on shift logistics.
Remain actively present throughout the attractions, continually supporting actors and verifying adherence to break protocols.
Respond promptly to any issues within attractions, whether related to safety, performance quality, or guest experience.
Monitor safety, guest throughput, and resolve any operational bottlenecks.
Motivate and energize performance staff to maintain high energy and engagement.
Document nightly performance notes for weekly recaps.
Participate in post-season wrap meetings with the General Manager to review successes and identify opportunities for future improvement.

Demonstrated expertise in team management and leadership, with a strong background in performance or acting. Experience in haunted attractions is highly desirable but not mandatory.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent reading, writing, comprehension, and instruction-following skills.
Proficient in basic computer applications, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and Google Docs.
Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event operations.
Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as assigned.
