OVERVIEW
This summer (June–August 2026), Bard SummerScape returns with a vibrant season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent. Presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, this celebrated multi-arts festival takes place in person on Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus, featuring performances in the stunning Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center.
Reporting directly to the Orchestra Production Manager and working closely with the Associate Orchestra Production Manager and Assistant Orchestra Stage Managers, the Orchestra Stage Manager assists in the planning, preparation, and physical implementation of all rehearsals and concerts taking place at the Fisher Center and nearby locations, both on and off Bard campus.
This is a seasonal position from August 3 through August 18, non-exempt, paid hourly at a rate of $21–$22.50 per hour, depending on experience. Hours will average 35–40 hours/week, with potential for overtime.
This position requires local residence during the dates listed above. Housing is provided as needed, beginning one day prior to the employment start date and ending at 10 a.m. on the day after the employment end date. Housing includes a single bedroom with shared amenities. Employees will have access to three (3) meals per weekday and two (2) meals per weekend day on campus during the residency period. Should campus dining agreements or options change, an equivalent per diem will be provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace at all times.
Communicate with the Orchestra Manager to determine the needs of each program.
Coordinate and manage the installation of stage plots and stage changes.
Coordinate and manage equipment and instrument deliveries across campus.
Assist the Associate Orchestra Production Manager in scheduling the overhire crew.
Manage the overhire crew in the Associate Orchestra Production Manager’s absence.
Assist the Associate Orchestra Production Manager with equipment and instrument rentals.
Run and call orchestra rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances.
Assist multiple venues on and off campus.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
Theatrical production management and/or stage management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to work in an organized, self-directed, and detailed manner.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to support collaborators of all experience levels, including students, young professionals, and lifelong professionals.
Basic knowledge of theatrical lighting and sound systems.
Strong knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
Successful candidates possess strong communication skills, keen attention to detail, are collaborative, self-motivated, and bring a positive, can-do attitude.
Traditional orchestral concert experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of classical musical production preferred.
Ability to read music is a plus.
Experience driving trucks up to 24’ is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to work nights and weekends.
Ability to lift 30 lbs.
Ability to work around live music for extended periods of time.
