Open call for grant applications

the Dutch Embassy

Belgium Belgium, TBA
Posted on: Oct. 04, 2025

Description:

Every year, the Dutch Embassy in Brussels organizes several open calls for grant applications for Dutch-Belgian or Dutch artistic and cultural projects in Belgium that contribute to strengthening the cultural and artistic profile of the Netherlands in Belgium and promote cooperation between the two countries.

Which projects are eligible for a grant application?
Dutch-Belgian or Dutch artistic and cultural projects in Belgium that contribute to strengthening the cultural and artistic profile of the Netherlands in Belgium and promote cooperation between the two countries.
Artistic and cultural projects must be publicly accessible. For example, personal development programs are not eligible for funding.
Who can apply for a grant?
Only professional creators, organizations, institutions, and legal entities in Belgium with a company number can submit a grant application for cultural and artistic projects.

Which disciplines and themes are eligible?
All disciplines are eligible, but special attention is given to the performing arts, contemporary visual arts, the creative industries (especially architecture, design, fashion, and digital art), and cultural heritage. Multidisciplinary projects are also welcomed with interest.
In addition, the embassy welcomes projects involving innovative (presentation) formats and methods, cross-border cultural exchanges, and projects focusing on participation and inclusion, equal rights, and sustainability.
Where should the projects take place?
Projects must take place within Belgium, unless they involve virtual collaboration.
Special attention will be given to projects taking place in Wallonia and the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.
Nature of the subsidies
A subsidy only covers costs related to Dutch participation in the project.
Grant applications can be submitted for the financial support of:
travel and accommodation expenses of Dutch participants in the project,
(art) transport costs for the Dutch part of the project
production costs for the Dutch part of the project
communication costs for the Dutch part of the project
To properly conduct the assessment, the Dutch Embassy requires a complete budget for the entire project and a detailed budget plan clearly specifying for which items a grant is being requested from the Embassy.
A financial contribution from the Dutch Embassy in Belgium is always supportive and serves as a supplement to the grant applicant's own project contribution. This means that a project remains viable even without this support.
Subsidy amounts
The Dutch embassy in Belgium awards grants between 500 and 5,000 euros.
Due to the limited grant budget, not all applications can be honored.
The Dutch Embassy in Belgium reserves the right to determine the final maximum grant amount; in other words, the requested grant amount may not always be awarded in full.
Submitting applications
The Dutch Embassy in Brussels organizes several open calls for grant applications each year for which deadlines apply.

Deadline
The following deadlines are provided for submitting applications:
November 12, 2025 for projects that will be carried out between January 1 and July 30, 2026;
May 18, 2026 for projects that will be carried out between August 1 and December 31, 2026.
Application
Your application is only valid after you:

completed the application form online and
sent the following documents to [email protected] with the subject line "Open call Dutch Embassy - title of your project":
Budget plan (a complete budget for the entire project and a detailed budget plan clearly specifying for which items a grant is requested from the embassy)
Recent bank statement (not older than 6 months)
Completed and signed supplier registration form
JPG image related to the Dutch activities in the project (photo of the artist, film still, etc.) copyright-free. Not a poster or flyer.
Processing of the application
The Embassy will confirm receipt of your application in writing.
Your application will initially be processed by a member of the Cultural Affairs department, who will check it for accuracy and completeness. If necessary, additional information may be requested or further research may be conducted. If the application is complete and submitted on time, the project will be submitted to an internal committee for review.
An assessment will follow no later than four weeks after the deadline has expired.
The project for which a subsidy amount was awarded must start before the end of the calendar year in which the subsidy amount was awarded.
If your application is approved, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Belgium will notify you of the maximum allocated amount and the conditions under which a reservation can be converted into a grant. A grant comes with obligations as stated in the decision and the application form. The approval of an application does not confer any rights regarding the approval of subsequent applications.
