Job Description
These micro commissions are open to performance artists from Newcastle upon Tyne with interest to hear from East End based artists with a current active practice in the North East.
Brief
To use your chosen art-from to create a short performance on themes of North East culture. It can be yours personally, the Byker/Newcastle history, visions of the future or just a celebration. This is an opportunity for you to create something you may have been exploring the thoughts of, or needed resources doing so.
Be open with your ideas, we are here to encourage opportunities for artists to celebrate themselves, their history, culture and future!
Offer
£1000 to include expenses.
1:1 support with an industry professional.
Use of devising/rehearsal space in the Northern Stage Rehearsal Studio & Brinkburn St Studio, Byker.
It is anticipated that the artist will work mainly in a self-led capacity, however, the project producer & curator will support the artist through regular meetings to plan the format of their residency, make connections and introductions with the partners and other exhibiting artists and other creative contacts, provide knowledge and critical reflection around the process, and for general support.
Requirements
the selected artist will.
- Be required to perform the new work during the Byker Arts Festival Sat 29th July & 5th August 2023. Dates will be confirmed with the artist on contract.
- Have check in's with producer regarding the residency progress
based in Newcastle Upon Tyne with a keen interest in engaging artists from the East End district.
- Artists should have past experience in producing work from devising to performance.
- Undertake evaluation process
- Provide an artist statement and images for Byker arts Fest to promote this residency
- Give permission for photography to be taken (and then used) during the project
- Take part in press, marketing and key documentation opportunities as relevant
- Have their own PLI
- Be in charge of their own taxes
