Key Responsibilities: Technical Skills & Execution
This role requires a high degree of technical versatility and operational excellence:
Theatrical & Architectural Lighting Expertise: Serve as the primary Lighting Supervisor and/or Lighting Designer for performances, as well as oversee the Center's architectural lighting systems.
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: Serve alternately as the Stage Manager, Rigger, and/or Audio Engineer for performances and special events on a day-to-day basis.
Operational Readiness: Ensure thorough technical preparation before and organized clean-up after all events to guarantee seamless transitions.
Maintenance and Documentation: Implement scheduled and necessary maintenance of technical systems, proactively suggest and implement technical improvements, and contribute to department-wide safety and efficiency by writing work instructions that codify agered-upon and safe house practices for all theatrical equipment.
Key Responsibilities: Service & Collaboration
This role is a central point of contact requiring excellent interpersonal and service-oriented skills:
Service-Oriented Collaboration: Collaborate effectively and professionally with a diverse array of internal departments, visiting artists, and campus partners to support a thriving performing arts center.
Client Relationship Management: Provide exceptional technical service, working closely with external clients (visiting artists and local groups) to facilitate the successful and safe presentation of live events.
Mentorship and Supervision: Hire, manage, train, schedule, and supervise a team of 7–13 student stagehands during the academic year (and 2 in the summer), including training and fostering a positive and safe working environment.
Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other Technical Services team members on the successful presentation of all live events and system upkeep.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education: BA or BFA
Experience: 1 to 2 years of professional experience in technical theatre
Skills: Trained in specialized technical theatre practices and systems, including stage management, lighting design and practice, rudimentary audio, and rigging. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
ETC Eos/Ion console proficiency
Basic projection experience
Stage management experience
