Description:DESCRIPTIONThe IATSE Head Wardrobe is responsible for overseeing all wardrobe operations across The Public Theater’s multi-theater complex. This position leads the wardrobe crew in supporting all Public Theater performances and events, ensuring the maintenance, organization, and smooth execution of costume-related elements for each production. This position is covered under an IATSE collective bargaining agreement and requires membership or willingness to join IATSE Local 764. Responsibilities: Wardrobe Management - Supervise and coordinate a team of wardrobe crew members for all productions and performances. - Oversee the preparation, presetting, dressing, and quick changes for performances across multiple spaces. - Serve as wardrobe head for assigned shows, including running wardrobe tracks as required. Costume Maintenance & Care - Ensure the proper maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all costumes in active use. - Collaborate with the Costume Director and Costume Shop on ongoing costume upkeep and notes. - Maintain wardrobe inventory and supplies; track and report costume-related needs. Collaboration & Communication - Work closely with stage management, costume designers, and production teams to support costume needs during rehearsals, tech, and performances. - Ensure clear communication with visiting designers, Costume Director, wardrobe teams, and crew regarding costume tracking and changes. Health & Safety - Uphold and promote safety protocols regarding costume handling, quick changes, and backstage operations. - Maintain dressing rooms and wardrobe spaces in an organized and safe condition. Qualifications: - Member in good standing with IATSE or willingness to join. - Extensive experience as a head wardrobe or equivalent position in a multi-venue or repertory theater environment. - Strong leadership and team management skills. - Advanced knowledge of costume construction, maintenance, repairs, and cleaning techniques. - Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by performance schedules. - Excellent organizational and communication skills. - Support special events, and other Public Theater programming as assigned. - Provide mentorship and guidance to assistants, overhire crews, and apprentices. - Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful work environment aligned with The Public Theater’s values of equity and diversity. Working Conditions: - Work is primarily performed in theater spaces on and off stage. - Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in tight quarters. - Evening and weekend hours will be required based on production needs. This is a non-exempt position, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Position is available immediately.
